  1. That is a good read, thanks Marianne! I have been thinking about the issues of eroding confidence lately as I examine my reviews from my past two NSERC Discovery grant applications. Two things come up in the reviews - first the lack of students that I have put through (even if the reviewers acknowledge that might be due to my mat leaves) and the fact that my proposal didn't go into the methods clearly enough. But the methods I proposed where pretty clear to the internal reviewers and were based on my past work. I start to think, is it because I have been evaluated more harshly than my male colleagues? Regardless, erosion of confidence is perhaps the most dangerous aspect of negative bias.
